Scammell Explorer Mk II Walkaround

Описание к видео Scammell Explorer Mk II Walkaround

The Scammell Explorer replaced the Scammell Pioneer in the late 1940s as the 6x4 Pioneer came to the end of its service life. The Scammell design team in Watford developed the 6x6 Explorer, which could handle the army's new, larger tanks such as the Centurion and Conqueror - the Meadows 10.4-litre engine gave the Explorer twice the power of the Pioneer. That said, I think this vehicle has a later Gardner 120 8.3-litre diesel engine. The first Explorers entered service in 1950, with a total production run of around 1,500 Mk I and Mk II vehicles - the Mk II incorporated NATO-related modifications. The vehicles were operated by REME - the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. This Scammell Explorer Mk II was on display at the Tanks, Trucks and Firepower show in August 2023.
